2026-2027 Residents

The Desert Door: Rest + Resilience Artist Retreat is pleased to announce the artists selected for its inaugural season, running from September 2026 through February 2027.

Desert Door is a non-production artist retreat in Joshua Tree offering uninterrupted time for rest, reflection, and reconnection with creative practice.

This inaugural cohort spans disciplines and includes choreographers, filmmakers, photographers, writers, painters, sculptors, and performance artists. The selection process focused on supporting artists whose access to sustained time for rest and creative reflection is often limited, including mid-career femme-identifying artists, parents, and caregivers.

Residents receive a private stay at Desert Door and a modest honorarium, with no requirement to produce, present, or complete new work. The retreat is grounded in the belief that rest is essential to sustaining a creative life.
